Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games Release Date Announced

I often always completely forget about the Olympics. In all honesty, I don’t think I’ve cared since 2008 or so. I also often forget that with every major Olympic event taking place, whether it be Summer or Winter, Nintendo and Sega decide to release a Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games title.

With that said, it seems a new title within the franchise is on the way, out of nowhere it seems, Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games, has been announced to be launching on the the Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Wii U. The 3DS version is set to release on March 18th, with the Wii U release coming sometime later in the year.

This latest iteration within the franchise will be doubling the roster count from 20 to 40, each team receiving an additional 10 characters; Diddy Kong, Rouge the Bat, Roalina, and Blaze the Cat are just a few newcomers among the slew of new characters.

This latest title will enable you to use your amiibos to unlock new outfits and increase your stats for 24 hours, a very neat feature if you are into collecting amiibos.

I’ll personally never forget my excitement for the first Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games release, back in 2007. I expected the title to be something quite revolutionary to be honest. Mario and Sonic in the same game?! It was a crazy concept to me, despite Sonic later making his way to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Unfortunately, for me, the game did not live up to the hype, and wasn’t really what I expected. Which now that I look back, I’m not exactly sure what I expected.

But hey! For those of you who are into mini-games that are sports centric, Mario & Sonic At The Olympics Games is one of the best franchises to see your favorite classic video game icons, settling it at the big games!
