It’s been a very long time since we’ve received a Sonic game..no I mean a good Sonic game; and please don’t bring up Sonic Unleashed! People forced themselves to believe that game was good. Luckily for us, however, it seems a new Sonic title may not be very far off as we are currently in the midst of the 25th anniversary of the Sonic franchise, and Sega seems to be taking good advantage of that.
The official Twitter account for Sonic the Hedgehog recent tweeted this photo, along with the following message “We solemnly swear we’re up to something good.” It better be damn good! The photo contained several images of Sonic within it, along with some text I suppose they thought was witty, but ultimately finished with an image that reads “Game Development In Progress”.
This pretty much confirms the existence of a new Sonic title, which we will more than likely be hearing about sometime before the end of the year. Personally, I’m really hoping for some sort of reveal during E3 2016, but with such a small tease, and E3 2016 just around the corner, there may be a bit of time before we officially hear about what exactly Sega is cooking up. A 25th Anniversary party is currently planned to take place at San Diego Comic-con this Summer, so there may be a good chance we will hear about it there.
Now I won’t get my hopes up. I know Sonic Adventure 3 Battle will never be a thing, along with Sonic Heroes: 2, but hopefully they are able to develop something that maintains the same charm, if not better, that those games were able to hold. Sega, I’m begging you, please do not let us down this time, and no scarfs!
