Dead or Alive 5 has been one of those fighters that have received various amounts of guest fighters over the years, characters from other franchises basically. Now, with King of Fighters XIV on the way, it seems ATLUS is hoping to bring a little KoF attention to the 3D fighter world, as they, along with Koei Tecmo, have announced that Mai Shiranui is being added to Dead or Alive 5.
Koei Tecmo has promised in a recent statement that she will be balanced to fit in with the rest of the roster. It will be really interesting to see how she is implemented into the game, however, especially considering the fact that she comes from a 2D fighter.
It’s really exciting to see fighters from certain franchises, guest star in other games. Bandai Namco is currently doing something similar as Akuma will be a main character in the upcoming Tekken 7 title.
While extremely unlikely, hopefully someday we will receive a DOA/KoF crossover. Though the latest fighting game crossover, Street Fighter x Tekken, wasn’t exactly that well received, it would be nice to see some other crossovers, done properly, sometime down the line.
