Having been announced quite awhile back, Crackdown 3 has been one of the most highly anticipated titles for Xbox One/Windows 10. The title was absent at this years E3 2016 Press Conference from Microsoft, and little to no word has been said in regards to it’s multiplayer mode, which was set to release this year, separate from the full title.
Arron Greenberg, who is the Xbox marketing manager, recently shed a bit of light on the current absence of Crackdown 3 and when we might see it, during his appearance on the TXR Podcast. According to GameSpot, he has stated the apparent reason behind the lack of Crackdown 3 was because “we don’t need the game this year.”
Greenberg had the following to say in more detail:
“We’ve been more thoughtful about spreading out our titles over the next year; not cramming them all into [the holiday season]. Giving people time to play games; to have time and money to be able to go buy the next game. When we look at that holiday 2016 window of time, we sure didn’t need another big AAA game, and so we’d rather give the team time and bring that out sometime next year.”
Wow, what a reasonable reason! Not really…but I suppose in the long run, I’m less pressured to spend more money on yet another Holiday release. While Crackdown 3 is, and has been the only big Microsoft exclusive that I have been excited for since it’s announcement, aside from Halo 5; I suppose there are enough big releases taking place this year that will help me take my mind off of the lack of Crackdown 3.
Early 2017 seems to be when we’ll officially get Crackdown 3 in our hands, it’s a little bit of a wait, but yet another delay nonetheless.
