Sony’s upcoming remaster of the 12th stream-line Final Fantasy title (Final Fantasy XII) was announced to be in the works late last year. Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age is pretty much the next big thing happening within the Final Fantasy franchise, that is, if you leave out the Final Fantasy VII Remake of course.
Final Fantasy XII has always been a more over-looked title within the franchise. The game isn’t bad by any means, but for some reason, the fandom for the title never really caught on all that much when compared to other games within the franchise; and it seems Square Enix might be able to change that trend with the titles upcoming remaster.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age falls somewhere in-between a fully, fleshed out remaster/half of a remake. The game is set to include more content and game-play options, which were absent from the original PlayStation 2 release in North America and Europe, while also offering a new skill learning system centered around on the jobs that you choose to assign your characters. Several other nice and convenient perks are set to be added into the game, such as an auto-save function, a new full-screen map, trophy support, and updated stats for enemies and characters.
During the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Event which took place a few days ago, Square Enix re-confirmed that Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age was still indeed in the works, while also confirming that the title would be arriving exclusively on PlayStation 4 this coming July.
With all of the hype and anticipation surrounding the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts 3, and even the Final Fantasy XIV expansion (which is set to launch around the same time), hopefully RPG fans will be able to find time to fully dive into the world of Final Fantasy XII once again, and truly experience all it has to offer. I know I will.
