The launch of the Nintendo Switch is just a week away, and with that glorious day drawing closer with every second that passes, many soon-to-be Switch owners are still a tad bit confused as to what they’ll be able to do with the console upon launch. In all honesty, Nintendo has not revealed all that much regarding the online functions which will be available to us with the system launches next week; we do however know, that a day one patch will be present which will enable some online features including multiplayer, and the eShop.
With the eShop being present, many are probably wondering which Virtual Console titles will be available to pickup during the launch day, and if the highly rumored GameCube Virtual Console will in-fact be a thing. Unfortunately, it seems neither will be present on launch day, as Nintendo recently released a statement this week which stated that “Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch. We will share more information in the future.”
This is a huge bummer for Switch owners who dislike the launch lineup, or perhaps want something more to play when the console launches. With the Switch not having the most robust lineup, a Virtual Console alternative would be awesome, however, it seems this won’t be an option.
Virtual Console will most definitely be coming down the line, but it seems as if Nintendo is still working on online features and functions surrounding the Nintendo Switch, so much so, that many features just aren’t done/ready in time for the launch, Virtual Console being one of them. It’s a good thing Breath of the Wild is such a huge title; as it should keep most Switch owners occupied until more online features roll out, or at least until April, where the Switch library will receive even more significant releases.
The Nintendo Switch launches next Friday on March 3rd.
