Splatoon 2 Set to Launch on July 21st, New Amiibo Series Also on the Way

After the Splatoon 2 testfire which took place a few weeks ago, Splatoon 2 easily sky-rocketed to being one of my most anticipated titles of 2017. Despite being a beta period, the game felt incredibly smooth, fun, and easy to jump into, despite being a newer player.

During Nintendo recent Direct Presentation which took place this week, the company finally revealed several new details regarding the game as well as it’s official release date. Right off the bat, Splatoon 2 will be officially arriving on the Nintendo Switch on July 21st, which perfectly marks it’s Summer 2017 release window which Nintendo announced not too long ago. In addition to this, Nintendo also confirmed that a new Splatoon series of Amiibo are on the way and will feature Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Squid; all of these Amiibo will launch alongside the game when it officially launches this July.

Nintendo also confirmed a new game mode for Splatoon 2 during the Direct. The mode is called Salmon Run, and features four players teaming up to fight against waves of AI chum and various other creates to gather eggs and ultimately secure an island. Whenever you kill a large enemy during the mode, you’ll have a shot at unlocking equipment within the game.

Splatoon 2 is one of the titles that has been suspected to be pushed towards the more “eSports” crowd sometime during it’s lifespan. Nintendo has already begun hosting online tournaments for the original Splatoon, and considering the eSports clip which was featured with Splatoon 2  at the end the the original Nintendo Switch teaser, it’s quite likely Nintendo plans to host some sort of large-scale Splatoon 2 tournament series sometime after it’s launch. Splatoon 2 will also feature up to 8-player multiplayer via local wireless, which is even more convenient for tournament play.
