In Case You Haven’t Heard, Starcraft I & Brood War Expansion Are Now Free To Download

With last months announcement of StarCraft I and it’s expansion counterpart Brood War receiving remasters on the PC this Summer, excitement as well as nostalgia within the StarCraft community has shot up quite heavily. While a remaster of the original StarCraft and Brood War have been rumored for quite sometime now, last months announcement has definitely got the community talking again about the old days of PC gaming as well as competitive StarCraft in general.

What has really got everyone going however, is that recently this week Blizzard announced that both the original StarCraft as well as the Brood War expansion are now available to download completely for free! The announcement also came alongside a new patch for the titles (1.18) which adds various bug fixes to the game, but most importantly, allows users to multi-task a bit more convinently while playing with the addition of a windowed full-screen and windowed mode for the game. The title also now has better compatibility with Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 – which is great because that’s what most of us are on nowadays.

The attainability of these titles now going to “free” ahead of their remastered counter parts which are scheduled to launch this Summer is definitely a great move on Blizzard’s part, and will most definitely help push the sales of the Remastered versions later down the line. If you haven’t for some reason picked up the original StarCraft and Brood War, you can do so by visiting the official download page located here. Downloads are available for both Windows and MAC operating systems.
