This is the prime time to be a fan of Fighting Games, let’s be real here. With several big fighting game franchises releasing over the past few months, it’s really hard not to be a fan, and it seems there will be even more to look forward to next year with the way things are shaping up right now.

Bandai Namco, and Arc System Works, the company behind the popular anime fighters BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and various others; have officially announced that they are working on a Dragon Ball fighting game entitled “Dragon Ball Fighters”. Now you’re probably wondering, “But there are a ton of Dragon Ball fighting games? How is this any different?” Well, while recent Dragon Ball titles are in fact technically fighting games, they aren’t traditional fighters by any means, and are sort of “arena brawlers” as a whole.

Dragon Ball Fighters will be a more traditional-style fighting game, which will be in 2.5D (similar to Guilty Gear Xrd) and will feature 3v3 combat (similar to Marvel vs Capcom 2 & 3.) While we do not know exactly how the 3v3 system will work, I think it’s a safe assumption that we’ll be able to tag out our characters, as potentially utilize some sort of assist attack. Bandai Namco has stated in the announcement that the game will contain lot’s of “ultra high speed battles” as well as “flashy special moves” to give you that Dragon Ball experience which other releases have been able to do.

Dragon Ball Fighters definitely seems to be shaping up towards something more similar to Marvel vs Capcom 3, but from the sounds of things, it may be even more fast paced. Needless to say, this announcement came a bit early, as it was originally intended to be announced on June 18th, with the official website going live once the formal announcement is made.

Dragon Ball Fighters will be heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime during early 2018.
