Current Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima will step down as the President of Nintendo this June, as a newer, younger replacement is set to take his place. Kimishima will officially retire from the role on June 28th, where after the new President will take his place.
The new President is Shuntaro Furukawa, he currently runs the Nintendo Global Marketing Department and has been with Nintendo since 1994. He was even a outside director for the Pokemon Company at one point, and even Nintendo’s managing executive officer. Furukawa is much younger, currently age 45, compared to the current President – Kimishima, who recently turned 68.
While it turns out Kimishima was never meant to be an official replacement for the late Satoru Iwata, who passed away during July of 2015, the company has definitely seen significant growth and success ever since he took on the role – and many are now worried that the new President may not be able to keep the momentum growing.
Despite the current skepticism however, it is in everyone’s best interests to wish not only Kimishima well in his new endeavors but to also welcome the new President, Furukawa in with welcome arms, and best wishes for the future as he takes on this new journey in his Nintendo career.
