If you were one of those worried about Nintendo dropping support for the Nintendo 3DS, well you’re in luck, as it seems Nintendo plans to continue supporting the platform for a bit longer than they have originally stated.
During the company’s recent financial briefing, the current President of Nintendo Tatsumi Kimishima has stated that the company plans to continue to support the handheld with new software readying for release in “2019 and beyond”, indicating that the system is definitely still a company focus until at least 2020. Nintendo also revealed release windows for some of the upcoming first party 3DS titles. With Dead Heat Breakers set to arrive this month, Sushi Striker in June, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker in July, Wario Ware Gold in August, Luigi’s Mansion later this year, and Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey for 2019.
As a huge supporter and lover of the Nintendo 3DS, I am happy to see it sticking around, although I do expect most 3rd Party support for the system to being slowing down at a rapid pace, especially as 2018 comes to an end. Many companies have already revealed that they will be continuing some of their franchises on the Nintendo Switch, marking an end of an era for the Nintendo 3DS, however despite this – it’s great to see that more 1st party titles will be on the way for the Nintendo 3DS during the next few years.
