Late last year we heard various rumors surrounding the possibility of both a StarCraft 1 remaster as well as a remaster for the first two Warcraft titles. While it was expected for both of these reveals to take place during the 2016 Blizzcon event, none of them ended up coming to fruition.
Despite this, it seems a StarCraft 1 Remaster may still be in the works, as a recent report from South Korean website, Sports Seoul, has been speaking of rumors regarding a remastered version of the title that Blizzard is preparing to launch sometime this year. This remastered version of the title is will apparently be a graphical-rework of the original version, while offering no changes to how the game plays.
Aside from the graphical improvements, the title is also set to be compatible with Battle.net 2.0; ultimately joining among the ranks for Diablo 3, StarCraft II, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, and of course World of Warcraft.
While not much more information is known at this point regarding these rumors, the report states that we could see an official announcement sometime as early as next week, with a likely early Summer 2017 release date.
A remastered StarCraft 1 would definitely shake-up the competitive StarCraft scene in a good way. Adding two StarCraft titles into the eSports fold would be an interesting thing to see, and to be honest, I feel like that’s something everyone could benefit from. Hopefully official confirmation is not too far off, as I know likely many are eagerly awaiting for disclosure on these rumors.
