Dark Souls Series Has Met It’s End, Developer Confirms

Remember those countless hours you’ve spent raging at the beginning of each and every Dark Souls game? Remember the countless controllers you’ve broken? The multiple TV screens and monitors you smashed? Well, you can finally put all of that behind you, as your journey within the universe of Dark Souls will soon to be coming to an end.

For some time now, we’ve known Dark Souls 3 was likely to be the last release in the franchise, for quite some time; however, the possibility for DLC releases for Dark Souls 3 had always remained as a certainty for most. It seems however, that we won’t be getting as many DLC releases as we may have once thought. Revealed in a report by Polygon, who recently spoke with the president of FromSoftware; upon being asked whether the upcoming DLC for Dark Souls 4 would mark the end of the the Dark Souls series, the president confirmed right away that “yes”, the Dark Souls franchise will in fact be coming to an end after the final DLC release.

He continued on to say that it’s “time to move away from the Dark Souls franchise. As president of FromSoftware, I’m not completely denying the possibility of bringing back the franchise in the future. There could be someone else in my company who wants to work on new installments. But we believe that the series will end after the two  DLC.”

It’s definitely nice to see that the president is open for a studio in the company to perhaps continue on the Dark Souls mantle, however, I’m sure with this now known to the public, many developers, possible even indie developers; may begin working on projects quite similar to the Dark Souls franchise, as very challenging games like these are quite lacking, this day in age. This also opens up room for the company to continue working on potential future Bloodborne titles, however, it’s quite likely we won’t see a sequel for awhile.

Dark Souls 3 will be receiving 2 final DLC packages. The first will be Ashes of Ariandel, which is set to launch next month on October 25th. The final DLC however, will be arriving sometime next year.
