Destiny has been a bit dry lately, and while the developers over at Activision and Bungie still have plans to provide an content update for players this Spring; a lot of the fan base is a bit more interested in learning the details behind the full-fledged sequel for the title, which is currently scheduled to arrive sometime this year.
Activision recently reported some details surrounding the title, mainly covering a few things which were discussed during their recent earnings report. Thomas Tippl, one of Activision executives revealed that Destiny 2 is currently being developed “to thrill” the existing fan-base for the title. Tippl also revealed that with Destiny 2, they are aiming to bring “many new players into the fold”, something which is always a good idea with the release of a sequel. It was also revealed that the development team does in-fact have post-launch plans for the title, entitled “content seasons”, which likely means we’ll be seeing yearly expansions and possibly larger seasonal updates, compared to what we’re currently getting now.
The CEO, Eric Hirshberg, confirmed that development is going smoothly for Destiny 2, and that the title will contain “a lot for them to live”, as he referred to the games current community. Hirshberg also revealed that Destiny 2 will feature a “great cinematic story”, which has thus far been a cornerstone surrounding the development of Destiny 2. Hirshberg also added that they are aiming to create ways to make the game more accessible for the more casual audience, without cutting ties with the content the core players enjoy.
It’s great to hear some official word on Destiny 2, as aside from the 2016 confirmation that the title would be pushed into 2017 as well as the ability to transfer our current guardians over to the sequel; we haven’t heard all that much regarding the development process for the title. With the development process reportedly going very well, and with the game being on track for a 2017 release; odds are we will be hearing a lot more about what’s to come in the sequel as we make our way through Q2 of 2017, with likely a huge announcement taking place during E3 2017.
