If you’re a fan of the Fable franchise, some unfortunate news has been revealed earlier today as it seems we’re going to have to wait, quite possibly, a very long time before we get a new Fable title.
Lionhead Studios, the creator and manager of the infamous Fable franchise has revealed to be shutting down today. Microsoft announced that the development of the Fable Legends title has been cancelled, along with the studio behind the franchise.
Fable Legends was scheduled to release later this year as a PC and Xbox One exclusive and was definitely one of the more highly anticipated titles to release for the Xbox One.
The announcement from Microsoft states:
“These have been tough decisions and we have not made them lightly, nor are they a reflection on these development teams – we are incredibly fortunate to have the talent, creativity and commitment of the people at these studios.” “The Lionhead Studios team has delighted millions of fans with the Fable series over the past decade. Press Play imbued the industry with a unique creative spirit behind games like Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Kalimba, which both captured passionate fans. These changes are taking effect as Microsoft Studios continues to focus its investment and development on the games and franchises that fans find most exciting and want to play.”
I personally find it very sad that we won’t be getting another Fable title. But since the franchise is fairly popular and well liked, I do believe we will see another title sometime down the line, developed by a different studio.
