Marvel vs Capcom 4 May Actually Be On The Way

Ever since the purchase of Marvel Comics by Disney, and the expiration of Capcom’s license with Marvel property expired back in 2013; many fans of the Marvel vs Capcom franchise have been dry out of hope as far as receiving a 4th entry into the franchise goes. Shortly after Disney acquired Marvel comics, it seemed Capcom had lost much of the property to the Marvel characters; ultimately disallowing them to continue the franchise as well as support their already well-established Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3….or so we thought.

After many rumors and speculation, recent reports are now claiming that a new Marvel vs Capcom title is in fact on schedule for a 2017 release. The latest, and more reliable report comes directly from Polygon, as the entity has stated that they have been told Capcom will unveil Marvel vs Capcom 4, this weekend, a the PlayStation Experience Convention which is set to take place in California. Sources have also told Polygon that this entry of Marvel vs Capcom will be taking a tad bit different approach in terms of the character roster for the Marvel side of things, in comparison to the franchises previous entries.

Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4‘s roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized — and has full control over — during the past decade. That means fighting game fans will more likely see characters plucked from The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films, and not from properties like the X-Men.

While it’s quite disappointing to hear that we may not even receive a single X-Men character in this upcoming iteration of Marvel vs Capcom, it is exciting to know that we’ll be able to play some of our favorite heroes that have been present of the big-screen, throughout the past few years.

Marvel vs Capcom is a huge franchise within the fighting game genre, and even though Capcom has continually stated that their focus is to improve Street Fighter V as much as possible throughout the next several years up until 2020; it seems they have been hiding much from us, with this now – very likely existence of a 4th MvC titles.
