Nintendo Switch To Leave Miiverse and Streetpass Behind

While it’s a bit unclear what direction Nintendo is taking with the social aspects/features of the Nintendo Switch, we now know two things for certain; one of which is that most of the systems social applications and features will be handled via a 3rd party app, and the other is that the console will not feature either Miiverse of Streetpass functionality.

Confirmed by a the Nintendo of America assistant manager of public relations, David Young confirmed with VentureBeat that the system will not include Miiverse and or Streetpass. While the reason for the lack of Miiverse is a bit unknown, he did explain that the type or architect within the Switch is much different than the Nintendo 3DS, which Streetpass was developed for.

Social features and applications are a huge part within majority of gaming experience nowadays. The Wii U lacked social capabilities quite a bit, so it would be a bit painful to see Nintendo make the same mistake, once again. Fortunately, it seems like they are going in the right direction despite the departure from Miiverse and Streetpass; as the company has already announced that the Nintendo Switch will have options to share images and video to social media, as well as player lobbies and voice chat.

The Nintendo Switch is set to arrive worldwide on March 3rd, 2017.
