It turns out the rumored remake of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus is likely to be something entirely different, as the developer, Oddworld Inhabitants, has revealed some details regarding the upcoming new title and when it will be available.
The upcoming Oddworld title is set to be a sort of re-imagining game (why am I not surprised), featuring events that took place in prior events that took place, but re-told in a much darker manner. The title is officially called ‘Oddworld: Soulstorm’. The developers are currently describing it as
“A fresh narrative – a complete story retake inspired by our original tale. A big visual and cinematic leap aiming to break new ground for Oddworld. Intelligent new mechanics, twisted new devices enabling highly explosive deviousness. A dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.”
Over on the teaser site, it currently describes that we will be seeing Abe in this game “as we’ve never seen him before.” Even though it’s not quite purposely directed, that still makes things sound a bit eerie. The series creator Laorne Lanning confirmed in a press release that “there was a deeper, darker, and more sinister story that we never got to tell. Soulstorm gives us the opportunity to flesh out more meat on the bones of an original spine, but re-tell the fable from a very different angle.”
Oddworld: Soulstorm is currently set to launch sometime during the second half of 2017.
