Blizzard has been hard at work on their next, possibly big, FPS franchise – Overwatch for awhile, and it seems the company is just about ready to begin rolling the game out to more users.
The original rumored release date for the title was set for May 24th, and awhile at first Blizzard neither confirmed nor denied that release date, the company has now confirmed that the game will in fact be arriving on May 24th, 2016.
In addition, Blizzard has also announced the open beta period for the title; as users on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will be able to access the games beta from May 5th through May 9th. Anyone who decides to pre-order the game will receive early beta access, which begins on May 3rd.
While I haven’t yet had the opportunity to play the title myself, Overwatch looks to be shaping up to be the League of Legends of competitive FPS games, if that makes any sense. I suppose in that case, Counter Strike: Global Offensive can be the DOTA 2 of FPS titles. Regardless though, with Overwatch releasing on several platforms, the game is highly accessible to pretty much anyone.
