It is a glorious day for Pokemon fans! But definitely not the most glorious day for them this week! That day will be Friday.
Nintendo has announced earlier today that a new Nintendo Direct will be taking place this Friday, February 26th, at 7am PT/10am ET. The direct will be focused solely on Pokemon, as the 20th Anniversary celebration for the series begins this week, and Nintendo apparently has quite a bit of news and announcement that they are ready to share with us!
All in all, there is a lot Nintendo could announce this Friday, so much, that we could be speculating for day’s, however let’s take the more realistic approach this time around.
Pokemon GO
So Pokemon GO is first on my list, as the title has already been confirmed to be released sometime during Spring of this year. Aside from the announcement trailer we received late last year, details following the Mobile app have been quite scarce, and Nintendo has kept quiet about it, seemingly waiting for the perfect time to share more details about the app, that perfect time looks like it very well could be NOW.
Pokemon GO is set to be an interactive mobile app in collaboration with Unplugged Gaming pokemon tcg sets of all kinds will be available. The users will be able to catch Pokemon, level them up, battle with others, and engage in raid battles of sorts with other nearby users. Every location in real life will offer you the opportunity to catch different Pokemon. It’s really Pokemon taking place in the real world, except, you can only see them via your phone.
Detective Pikachu
Detective Pikachu is the latest Pokemon video game announcement.
The title is focused around Pikachu and a young boy or girl, solving mysteries which involve other Pokemon. The title seems to be shaping up to be a Professor Layton (Pokemon Edition) of some sorts. While the title hasn’t been announced outside of Japan as of yet, there is a very good chance we’ll be hearing about this sometime on Friday as a official worldwide announcement.
Pokken Tournament
We’ve all known about Pokken Tournament for awhile, as the title is already out in Arcades in Japan, as well as some locations here in the States! The title has also been announced for a console release, coming March 12th, so in a few weeks! While we’ve already heard a ton about the game, there is still a very good chance that Nintendo will spend some time discussing some of the other features of the game, and perhaps a playable Pokemon reveal or two, in addition to the current fighter roster.
I don’t expect Nintendo to spend too much time discuss about this title, as we are so close to release, however we haven’t heard anything about the other features and modes the title might include, so we’ll more than likely be hearing about that more than anything else surrounding the game.
Pokemon Z/ 7th Gen Pokemon Reveal
Last up on my list is the possible reveal of Pokemon Z, the assumed and highly rumored sequel to Pokemon X & Y. OR a reveal for the 7th generation of Pokemon!
While Pokemon Z seems much more likely, as it follows Nintendo’s traditional Pokemon release format, as they tend to release a 3rd version, for each Pokemon generation. Yellow Version was the 3rd version for generation 1, Crystal Version was the 3rd version for generation 2, Emerald version was the 3rd version for generation 3, Platinum version was the 3rd version for generation 4, Black 2 and White 2 were the 3rd version of sorts for generation 5, and Pokemon Z Version would be the 3rd version for generation 6, if Nintendo decided to continue that format. The Pokemon TV series has also recently kicked off a new season, which is entitled “Pokemon: XYZ”, ultimately leading fans to believe that Z is in fact on the way!
While Pokemon Z may seem like the most likely title to be on the way, many fans are holding onto hope of a possible 7 generation reveal from the company, instead of a 3rd version iteration for generation 6. Recently, Nintendo announced a brand new Pokemon movie, which is also set to feature a brand new Pokemon. Traditionally, Nintendo also teases their next generation of Pokemon, by revealing at least one of them within their recent Pokemon movie releases. Volcanion is that recently revealed Pokemon, and while it is currently slated as the final Pokemon in the generation 6 Pokedex, there is still a possibility that it may make it’s way into the generation 7 dex, though, it staying generation 6, is much more likely.
At the end of the day, Pokemon fans both young and old are not going to want to miss out on Nintendo Directs Pokemon focused Event taking place this Friday. Regardless of what Nintendo announces, you can be sure that there will be news that will shake the internet, and we’ll be sure to cover it at all angles.
