Final Fantasy XIV has had it’s up and downs ever since it’s original debut back in 2010. The game was a complete mess, and while it still held a fairly solid fan base, it was extremely hard for Square Enix to continually gain an audience due to the F2P MMO market being on the rise, as well as the graphical demand and many bugs the original FFXIV held.

Eventually, the original version of FFXIV shutdown for a few years, until Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn became a thing, ultimately completely changing the game; adding in an updated battle-story, brand new story, and just being a much more excellent product overall. Final Fantasy XIV: ARR became to be one of the most successful MMO’s to launch within this generation; which I definitely cannot say in regards to other MMO’s that have launched since 2010.

Final Fantasy XIV: ARR eventually received it’s first expansion early 2015, entitled “Heavensward”. The expansion brought upon a brand new journey, increased level-cap, the ability to fly with mounts, and so much more. The recent patch for Heavensward, 3.4, has just released, and is so far being enjoyed by many players.

With the Final Fantasy Fan Fest taking place this weekend, Square Enix took to the perfect opportunity to announce what is next for the Final Fantasy XIV Universe, and what players can expect to see moving forward. The right off the bat kicked off the Festival by announcing the next expansion to Final Fantasy XIV, which is entitled “StormBlood, and is currently set to release sometime during Summer of 2017.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormbound is set to take place in Ala Mihgo, 20 years after the Garlean Empire has taken control. The overall goal of the expansion is to fight against the Garlean Empire empire, and take back control of the region.

Stormbound will also see a raised level cap of 70, several new jobs to choose from, a revamped battle system, as well as brand new classes. A full list of all the brand new features coming to FFXIV can be found here.

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormbound is set to be available on PC and PlayStation 4; PlayStation 3 will no longer be supported with future versions of FFXIV after Stormbound is released.
