As we reported yesterday, today was set to be a big day for Pokemon fans all around the globe! And so far, it’s been just that!

Announced early this morning, Nintendo has finally unveiled the next major chapter within the Pokemon franchise, by announcing the long awaited upcoming Pokemon Generation 8 titles – now officially known as Pokemon Sword & Pokemon Shield versions! Both games come as debut new generation Pokemon adventures to take place on the Nintendo Switch, meaning brand new Pokemon, brand new stories, all within a brand new region!

The new featured region that will be the focus of Pokemon Sword & Shield has been announced as the “Galar” region, a landmass that is loosely based off of Great Britain, featuring much more rural type of settings than we may have been generally used to within the past few generations of Pokemon.

The brand new starter Pokemon for this generations Pokemon were also announced, and are super adorable! The starters consist of Scorbunny, a seemingly very energetic fire-type Pokemon, Grookey an ambitious and quickly moving chimp-based grass type Pokemon, and last but not least Sobble, a seemingly shy yet clever water-type Pokemon that sort of resembles a tad-pole (at least to me it does.)

While not much other information was revealed regarding the title aside from the fact that they will be arriving sometime late this year, we can confirm some other information based on what was shown off in the trailer – such as the return of Pokemon gyms, the returns of Pokemon from various past generations, as well as the ability to choose your characters gender at the start of the game.

It may be a long while until we receive more information about Pokemon Sword & Shield, as Nintendo generally like to save the biggest announcements for E3 and future Nintendo Direct’s – but here’s to hoping we receive at least small tid-bits of new information leading up until something bigger during this years E3.
