I have strong connections to Deadpool the game for reasons I can’t get into but believe me; I know this game inside and out including all the stuff that had to be removed for legal reasons. Besides Batman I don’t really follow any other non-manga comic and with the Deadpool coming early next year I thought this could use some hype. Deadpool the game is getting a re-release on November 17 on PS4 and Xbox One. It seems like an odd choice considering all the other games being re-released recently. With the movie around the corner though I guess they thought it would be easier to just put out the great game they already had again instead of making another. I kind of wish they would put out the earlier version but I’m sure that has been lost to time by now (why did they have to remove Dogpool?!). There is no news if there will be anything special or even slightly different about the re-release but I guess that’s why it’s not a re-master.
The game originally received positive reviews on the great plot and Deadpool style comedy; however it did poorly in most other aspects. A lot of it was due to its rather repetitive gameplay; even with multiple weapons the action feels very much the same. The humor and plot work very close to each other with an almost break neck pace of 4th wall breaks and physical humor only the ‘merc with the mouth’ could do; like shooting yourself in the head as a form of sleep aid. The game has a lot of characters but many of them would only be recognized by the most diehard marvel fans; mainly because Marvel would only allow the most unidentifiable villains to be used. The final boss especially feels like kind of an easy out that could have been so much better. There is a great scene where you beat the crap out of Wolverine though. So if you are a fan of Deadpool you will love this game… at least the first time anyways.
So far there hasn’t been much news on the re-release. It wasn’t even available on downloading services for the longest time due to the falling out between Activision and Marvel; an event that affected multiple other games as well. The PC version was eventually put back up but it is unclear why. So now it is back again for the next gen and needs some recognition. While it is repetitive after a while it is still a good game and if you’re a fan of Deadpool the comedy alone will carry it for you. For your viewing pleasure I have included below what I call Disney Deadpool.
