The Division has only been out a little over a month now and it’s having all sorts of problems. I was kind of on the fence about getting this game after playing the beta. It looked good and promised an actual challenge for once. At the same time games that require constant internet and allow so much jumping in and out of other people’s games usually come with a lot of issues. I guess it’s a good thing I waited because it has plenty of problems. Across all platforms The Division is having every issue from graphics fails, missing codes, connection problems, clipping issues and broken or missing accounts. The last patch especially that included the current raid challenge caused plenty of issues. For a game that basically requires a constant internet connection some of these sound like fairly critical problems. Ubisoft has been quick to repair or at least inform players about many of these bugs, which there are plenty of. At the same time however many players argue that the developer is focusing on the wrong issues.
The Falcon Lost mission especially has caused issue for some players. A challenge mode of sorts that changes regularly, Falcon Lost was supposed to be a hard map that offers great loot to those who beat it one time. In usual gamer fashion, players found a glitch to exploit and get rare loot almost as much as they want. Every gamer knows there is always a bug in the system that can be exploited. The Division is no exception and the bigger a game is the more exploits there are. So why is Ubisoft acting like it’s the end of the world? Claiming it goes against their ‘Code of Conduct’, something I always assumed was a myth in video games as prepubescent’s hurl slurs and racial comments as easily as breathing, and is unfair to other players. Instead of patching the glitch though Ubisoft decided to ban players altogether, which seems extreme for exploiting shoddy coding.
Players are upset because instead of fixing actual issues it seems Ubisoft is more concerned with punishing players for getting a few extra items. The glitch has been fixed now as well but it seems players have already found another one. Nearly every gamer has exploited a bug at one time or another so why Ubisoft feels entitled to ban players now is kind of a mystery. They claim is that it’s unfair to other players, which may be true but being banned is still extreme. Not to mention there will always be players who are overpowered either way. If every player who exploited bugs in GTA Online was banned there would hardly be anyone left. Instead of evening things out the level of quality items has actually dropped, creating an even larger gap.
The Division has a lot of issues and while Ubisoft is supposedly trying to fix some of them it appears they are spending much more time punishing players. Like many other current gen games recently it seems The Division came out incomplete and is trying to repair things with patches. Is it fair to get mad at the gamer for pointing out and exploiting that fact in game though? Either way fans are upset because the game is bugged or being banned for using those bugs. If this goes on much longer Ubisoft may not have anyone left to even ban anymore.
