With the slow period of gaming coming to an end and Spring finally starting to come around, as do the rumors of upcoming video game announcements and reveals as well. This one however, is truly no shocker as we’ve been hearing this rumor for awhile now from various people; however a much more prominent and credible figure has spoken out once again.

The infamous Nintendo insider, Emily Rogers has recently reported on Reset Era that Nintendo is currently planning to release a Super Smash Bros. title later this year on the Nintendo Switch platform. Apparently, the game will be announced this year featuring a Holiday 2018 release window. The report also claims that Nintendo has apparently added a handful of new content to the game, as well as re-working some of the functions and features already present on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game. Emily had the following to say regarding the report:

I can only confirm two things:

A Smash Bros title will be announced and released for Switch later this year.
2. They added brand new content and re-worked some of the existing Wii U/3DS content.

Obviously from the sound of things, this apparent Smash title on the Nintendo Switch does in fact sound like a port of some sort; however, it may end up being so much larger and full of new content that it manages to stand out as it’s own standalone title. With Super Smash Bros. Wii U only having been out for not even 4 years as of yet, it’s a bit hard to believe that Nintendo has fully developed a brand new Smash Bros game from the ground up, so some sort of port sounds much more probable.

If a new Smash Bros title is in fact in the works, odds are we won’t hear about it until E3 2018, or perhaps sometime afterwards, who knows? Either way, I’m hoping Nintendo does in fact have something Smash related up their sleeves, as after the various rumors that have spread last year regarding a port coming – I’d love for my hopes not to be crushed once again.
