It’s a very exciting time for Zelda fans out there, while we will certainly have to wait a bit longer for Breath of the Wild 2, or even Breath of the Wild 2 information at this point; Nintendo has assured that we won’t be left it a dry-spell this year, as the company has announced a brand new entry in the Hyrule Warriors universe entitled ‘Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’. While this title will contain many of the features and game-play elements of the previous Hyrule Warriors title, as well as past “Warriors” entries; the biggest take-away from this new entry is that it is set to be a direct prequel to the events of Breath of the Wild.
For those of you who have played the Breath of the Wild title, you probably already know about the Calamity War that took place 100 years before the events of BotW, and how it left Hyrule in the state that we see it in throughout the duration of the game. Age of Calamity seeks to put us in the hot-seat of that very fateful war which took place, allowing us to fight alongside Hyrule’s Champions, and Zelda herself, as they take of Ganon and his forces during that tragic event.
A BotW prequel seems to be very fitting at this time, as many were hoping Nintendo would release one final DLC update for Breath of the Wild that would give players a bit more insight into the Calamity War, perhaps an expansion that was focused around the war. Turns out we’re getting a full-game surrounding the event, so I suppose that’s even better! This will prove to be quite interesting, as we will likely gain some sort of information that will tie-into the current BotW lore, and possibly even BotW 2 lore.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity releases on Nintendo Switch on November 20th, 2020!
