Taking place last year during EA Press Conference at E3 2013, the developers of the Burnout franchise, Criterion, announced a title that blew my mind, Extreme Sports Games. The title was set to be a crazy, YOLO, sports-like title, featuring crazy stunts and courses which would feature ATV’s, helicopters, wing-suits, skateboarding, and more; it was literally every Stuntman’s Desired Sports title.

Back then, the title was really early in development, as a matter of fact, the only real footage that was shown was sort of sketched, as the digital visuals were still being worked on. With the title not even being discussed during E3 2015, it left myself, as well as many others curious as to what happened with the project, unfortunately, we know now have clear indication that the title has officially been cancelled.

According to a recent report from GameSport, the reason behind the title being cancelled was due to Criterion’s shifting most of their focus to upcoming StarWars titles instead, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing, which is coming to PlayStation VR, is one of those titles.

An EA representative had the following to say to GameSport:

“While they’ve moved on from the previous project they’ve spoken about and aren’t pursuing it, they are continuing to build new ideas and experiment with new IP for EA, in addition to continuing to collaborate with other EA studios.”

I am absolutely devastated to hear that this project has been cancelled, I had originally forgot about the title since it’s announcement, but earlier this year it somehow leaked back in my memory, ultimately raising my hopes for it to be touched on during E3 2016, which it was not. While STEEP, may be the closest upcoming release, that is somewhat similar to the project, Extreme Sports Games was definitely a unique title, which I feel many have been wanting for a long time.
