Let me tell you a story, a story about the little game franchise that could. Long, long ago a company had a surprise hit game they called Darksiders. Now this game lacked in a lot of ways other games of the time did not but it was surprisingly intriguing to many people even though it played like a Zelda knockoff. So deciding to keep a good thing going the company made a sequel, not only did it look like a ‘modern’ game but it mixed multiple genres that really brought it into its own. Even if it still played like a Zelda knockoff and padded game play like insecure people pad bras… not that I would know. Now this company, THQ, was kind of a drunk and after some bad choices went belly up and had to sell all of its children for ‘medical experiments’. However, no one wanted little Darksiders and it waited until it appeared as if no one wanted to take a chance on it. In a last ditch effort Nordic games took the franchise but it wasn’t clear if or when any new games would come out.
Well folks this tale has a silver lining it seems, they aren’t making the next sequel yet that would follow Fury or Strife. It seems they are remastering Darksiders 2 for the PS4, while not the next step many people hoped for it is a good sign it will get done. The new edition called the ‘Deathinitive Edition’ a name that makes my eyes roll so far into my head they could become lodged there, will bring life back to a under rated title. I assume they are doing another re-release of this title, since I’m fairly certain they already did a definitive edition before, in order to test the waters on a third installment. I might have to buy it just out of hope it will help a third installment get done and I already have it on 360 and PS3. The funny thing is that it seems to be PS4 exclusive right now with no chance of that changing in sight. There is no release date yet either though, you can preorder on Amazon but that’s about it. Also interesting is how the new box art was viewable before but seems to have been taken down since then.
Is this a new beginning or an ill omen? It’s too early to tell right now and I fear that if this game doesn’t sell well it could end the series but since everyone who liked it probably bought it already it’s kind of a catch 22. The upside is that there will probably be more information in the near future with E3 just around the corner… and I will try and contain mysWHERE THE FING HELL IS FALLOUT?! Sorry, I’m taking medication for that tick now. Maybe its because I share a name sake but I feel a bond with Death and really hope this series sees an end some day. Too many other great series with little cult appeal, yes I’m talking about you Virtue’s Last Reward, have been hung out to dry because they didn’t appease all the cackling masses.
