The last topic that I will touch upon from the EA press conference was the announcement of Fe an indie game that they are funding. It’s a beautifully animated game that explores the relationship of nature. You awaken as a young cub, not know what you are and how you got there. As you travel through the forest, every creature and living thing as its own song. You learn the songs which helps navigate through the forest as you the cub try to figure out your own past. The graphics look amazing, as well as the little cub has to be the cutest little character I have ever seen. I myself plan to play it because it does look like that it will be an incredible game. I will put the trailer below in care if you have missed it.
Now EA originals is going to be EAs indie division. Where they will help small gaming companies with funding and help them produce a game. They not only help with the funding as well as the advertising, and distribution. This move by EA is actually a pretty smart move. Indie over the last 10 years have changed the course of gaming. Along with a lower price sticker, indie developers tend to have more freedoms when making their games. Unlike triple A games where they have to meet specific standards of the company, indie companies can put the focus on new experimental storylines as well as change the mechanics of gameplay. EA originals ensures that EA can now get a hold of that untapped potential indie developers have.
EA isn’t even the first company to do this, and they won’t be the last. However, it’s great to see that more and more companies are helping out indie developers.
