Since it’s full-on reboot, Final Fantasy XIV Online has quickly become of the most successful MMO franchises of all-time. That’s not really saying much, however, as even now Final Fantasy XI Online is still up and running with a pretty solid player-base and currently 5 expansion, the 5th releasing back in 2013! So it’s pretty obvious that Square knows what they’re doing, for the most part, when it comes to MMO’s.
Shadowbringers is the 3rd expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, and was announced earlier today at the Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2018, which is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. The overall expansion has a much darker tone, and is apparently about “embracing the darkness”. It seems as if the hero of light, (us), will be giving into the darkness a bit in this next expansion, which is sure to setup for some very interesting and tense plot lines.
Not much else has been revealed regarding the expansion aside from it’s early Summer 2019 release windows; however, if you are currently a player of Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood – it’s very likely the most recent patch update and it’s new quests will provide a little bit of insight on why things are headed in this “darker” direction.
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers will launch early summer 2019 for PC, Mac, Steam, and PlayStation 4.
