With many both unique and nostalgic platformers having been released this past year, it’s pretty easy to completely forget about the one game that released first, before the rest followed. That’s right, I’m referring to that little nostalgic gem ‘Yooka-Laylee” which launched on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC during April of this year. Developed by same minds behind the Banjo-Kazooie franchise, Yooka-Laylee was a gift to the fans of the more classic 3D platformer genre, and was for the most part, decently-received.
Despite the games issues here and there, Playtonic Games have developed a game which won the hearts of many, and will hopefully see some sort of continuation throughout the years to come. While Yooka-Laylee had it’s official launch earlier in the year, many have probably forgotten that the game is still set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch, a platform which most people have been anticipating the games arrival on.
It seems the developers have been taking all the time necessary to make sure the Switch version is perfect before launch, and it seems they have finally reached that point as Playtonic Games have announced that the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee will arrive on December 14th, and will be available to pre-order on December 7th. A special announcement video was also released alongside the announcement of the Switch version release date, which you can check out below.
Despite personally being a little “iffy” about how the game will run on the Nintendo Switch, I’ve particularly been holding off on playing Yooka-Laylee until I can get my hands on the Switch version. But after playing recent 3D platformer’s such as Mario Odyssey and Super Lucky’s Tale, I’m a bit worried that the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee won’t stack up to the smooth, and beautiful experiences that those games offer.
