Apparently Nintendo is getting extra nostalgic this year. Nintendo recently made a surprising announcement, revealing a Miniature version of the Nintendo Entertainment Version console, which will be arriving this holiday season. Officially entitled the “Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System”; the console will support HDMI output and will come with 30 pre-installed NES titles, a new NES controller, a USB cable, and an HDMI cable. The full package will only run you $60, quite a good deal in my opinion. The US edition of the package will come with an AC adapter, but the UK edition will not.
The following titles will come pre-installed onto the system:
- Balloon Fight
- Bubble Bobble
- Castlevania
- Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest
- Donkey Kong
- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Double Dragon 2: The Revenge
- Dr. Mario
- Excitebike
- Final Fantasy
- Galaga
- Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins
- Gradius
- Ice Climber
- Kid Icarus
- Kirby’s Adventure
- Mario Bros.
- Mega Man 2
- Metroid
- Ninja Gaiden
- Pac-Man
- Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
- StarTropics
- Super C
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Tecmo Bowl
- The Legend of Zelda
- Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
Despite us now having Virtual Console capabilities on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo seems to believe that we need a release of an 33 year old release (33 years old today, actually!). Regardless though, for only $60, this gem will be something I see many Nintendo fans picking up. It would also be great for those older folks who grew up on the NES and more retro games, a perfect holiday gift, really.
The Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System launches on November 11th.
