Some surprising news has recently come out of an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, via Eurogamer back in July. Apparently, despite the underwhelming sales of Pikmin 3, Nintendo has been working on it’s follow-up for quite some time!

“We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present. It’s actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”

We really don’t have much more information on Pikmin 4, but I think it’s safe to say the title will more than likely be an NX release, especially if the system truly is set to release in 2016. For a game that’s been development for quite some time, it’s surprising that we haven’t heard about it being in development, even as a Digital Event Closer at E3.

Regardless it will be nice to see the Pikmin make a return. I’m glad Nintendo continues to work on their more “moderate” sized franchises, that may not hold that same spotlight as Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Metroid do.
