Shenmue 3 was originally announced back in E3 2015 and quickly became the fastest fully funded Kickstarter title, ever. Since then, the developers have been providing us updates on the game, artwork, and other pieces of information to tide us over to the what once was “late 2017” release. Unfortunately, with E3 only day’s away and many fans prior hoping to hear new information about Shenmue 3, it seems we’ll have to wait a little bit longer for both new information about the game, as well as the release date as a whole.
From what came from a recent, short Kickstarter update, the series creator and project director, Yu Suzuki, basically announced that the game would be delayed, and for various reasons that in all honesty, make you sort of glad the game was delayed in the first place. The update briefly stated the following:
“By utilising new technologies, we have been able to discover new possibilities and expressions. In many ways, the game has become bigger and more beautiful than I initially expected. We do, however, need more time to deliver the game to you.”
While this was already expected, mostly due to the fact that the game was no longer scheduled to be shown during E3 2017, it is a hard hit for those who were direly awaiting Shenmue 3 as a 2017 release. Shenmue 3 has now been officially pushed into the second half of 2018, and while it may seem like a bit of a wait, you might not even notice it if the alleged Shenmue HD collection in fact turns out to be the real-deal.
Shenmue 3 will officially arrive on PlayStation 4, and PC during the second half of 2018.
