Many today were saddened to learn of the death of David Bowie, born David Jones, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after an 18 month battle with cancer. The British music idol, who was 69, had fans in every niche, and many in the gaming industry have expressed their sorrow at his passing. Among them is Rockband developer Harmonix, who tweeted “Absolutely heartbroken over the loss of David Bowie. Another music legend lost.”
Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, is a heavy-hitter in the film industry and is the director of the upcoming Warcraft, a film that is much-anticipated among gamers. He also responded to the news, tweeting “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”
Bowie released his latest album, Blackstar, last Friday, the day of his 69th birthday. The producer of the album claims it was Bowie’s tribute to his fans, and was planned as a finale before the musician’s death.
