A recent Forbes interview with head Titanfall writer Jesse Stern proved to be very revealing in regards to the upcoming sequel’s direction and vision.
In the interview, it was revealed that Titanfall 2 be going multi-platform. The original Titanfall was an Xbox exclusive which ultimately must have hurt its sales in the long run. Stern says that;
The multi-player game will be even better than it was the first time around. The first game was an Xbox exclusive (initially). This one is going to be widely available, I believe on all platforms. One of the shortcomings of the first game was we just did not have the mechanism to tell everyone ‘here’s who you are, here’s where you are and who’s around you.’
In addition, it is also reported that Electronic Arts, in conjunction with Respawn Entertainment, will be releasing a story mode-mode feature along with the standard multiplayer when Titanfall 2 is released sometime in 2017.
Gamesindustry.biz reports that the game’s original multiplayer-only focus was due to the studio’s small budget and team, and that the title’s success (over 10 million users) has allow for a bigger budget with room for a robust and fulfilling single player story that will, hopefully, flush out the game’s dystopian backstory.
Along with that, Stern confirms interest from Lionsgate TV in a scripted, animated Titanfall television show.
Looking to build upon Titanfall‘s success, Respawn studios and EA are thinking big.
