20 years! Crazy how time flies. On this date in 1996, the N64 officially went on sale in Japan (it would be followed a few months later with a September 26th, 1996 release in North America). The N64 is the epitome of nostalgia and bitter-sweet memories for me. It is widely considered the best console ever made (it’s games have, remarkably, stood the test of time. I still play Majora’s Mask). I’ll never forget when my parents bought me an N64 for my birthday in 1997. 007 Goldeneye, The Ocarina of Time, Doom 64, Turok, SuperMario 64, these were the…

In a live E3 interview with Giant Bomb, Microsoft’s head of Xbox division Phil Spencer confirmed that the gaming giant has plans to re-welcome Steam into its fold in the wake of the groundbreaking announcement, also at E3, that Microsoft would now be making all of its titles cross compatible with Windows 10. This decision appears to be going over very well. As a PC and PS4 gamer myself, this is very exciting. Those without an Xbox One will now have access to many Xbox-exclusive titles via Windows. Many will say this decision is long overdue, and I would be inclined…

Surprisingly, VR experiences were not at the forefront, looking back at E3 2016. Despite the emergence of consumer-friendly VR technology, most of the major reveals and surprises were still based in traditional console and PC gaming. VR still has a lot of work to do to fully capture the imagine (and money) of the gaming world. They still need to work a lot to reach the position of many Minecraft Servers that is dominating the gaming world for a long time. Reviews of the various VR manufacturer’s products are… mixed. Some love it, others find it makes them nauseous.  VR is…

The highly anticipated Isometric RPG Tyranny got an extended look at its gameplay and story during the PC gamer presentation at E3 2016 today. From developer Obsidian Entertainment, which has always been one of my absolute favorite developers – in my mind the kings of RPGs, who also brought us what is arguably the best PC RPG in existence (shut up Diablo fans) Pillars of Eternity, comes a new adventure. Taking place in a fictional land (duh) where, and here’s where this gets interesting, their has already been a proverbial “war of good vs. evil”, and evil won. The game…

During E3 2016’s PC gamer show, Lisa Su from AMD gave us our first exclusive look at the incredibly cool and futuristic Alienware RX 480 Virtual Reality backpack. The device was modeled during the Los Angeles-based conference by an Alienware employee, and it looks super comfortable. It is relatively small, and not too heavy at all. Essentially a top-of-the-line gaming PC with shoulder straps, being able to actually see one of these being worn is very exciting both for PC gamers and for VR enthusiasts. Despite the fact that both HP and MSI have also announced they are developing VR…

As we approach E3, tons of smaller conferences are also coming to a close around the globe. The company behind one of the most popular game engines amongst developers had its annual European conference last week in Amsterdam. For those of us unable to attend (which is obviously most of us), Unite has been kind enough to publish the company’s keynote and roadmap presentations, detailing what the company has been working on over the past year and also their vision for the future. In the speeches, we hear from both top-level executive management but also the tech team as they…

https://youtu.be/DFDSFcyMpFg If you’re like me, you’ve been enjoying the hell out of XCOM 2, while simultaneously being more stressed than any video game has ever made you before. Between this and the Hitman beta, it’s going to be a fun-filled weekend. Anyone who’s played XCOM knows just how blood boiling it can be, and how much we hate the Aliens for conquering our planet.  The Advent is brutal, relentless, authoritarian, genocidal, and now, hilarious. The guys at Eurogamer really hit this one out of the park, in fact I’m still laughing. HUG THAT SHIT!!
