Last August players were allowed to vote for one of the six free monthly games; then the other two not chosen were put on sale. An interesting title called Grow Home won last time and it was an ok game. Then for reasons unknown Sony just stopped the voting process. To be fair they never said it would be monthly but it still kind of felt like they were playing with our hearts. Well like a dog with a piece of meat dangled in front of it the free game vote is back again. It already feels as if they have yanked the meat away because the selection doesn’t seem so great. The poles will open February 9th and will probably close right away in March.
Starting out is Action Henk!. The answer to anyone who has ever wondered what it is like to be a small redneck flopping around on a race track. That is literally the entire game, there isn’t much more to be broken down. I assume there will be obstacles to avoid and get the fastest time. It looks like the game Wipeout which is just as bad as the show and nowhere near as good as the Japanese version they ripped off. There are fireworks, the only thing besides the fat redneck flopping around in the entire trailer. Unfortunately, I am not a five year old and bright colors don’t exciooooohhhhhh pretty colors!
Next on the list is Assault Android Cactus, a self-proclaimed twin stick shooter… or I don’t think that’s a real thing? Kind of a cross between Nano Assault Neo and Asteroids you play as an android girl. With one stick you move and with the other you fire; simple really but it feels like they are just wasting all that extra controller. Something about attacks from space and the usual fighting off space invaders. There is a power meter that prevents the player from just spinning around and shooting wildly. It doesn’t have online multiplayer but it does offer share play which can be used as multiplayer if I understand that correctly; kind of odd either way.
Lastly is Broforce, a parody of both 80’s and 90’s action movies and what most of the world assumes the average American is like. With destructible maps, plenty of explosions and plenty of weapons you run around fighting off Americas enemies… and then leave the stage in a series of explosions that would make Deadpool proud. This game has my vote for two reasons. Firstly it offers actual online multiplayer which seems ideal for a game like this. Blow up everything with my bros and then celebrate Team America style? Hell yeah! Or just screw my bro over by blowing up everything around them, also good. I also have to give some props to all the characters. While ridiculous they still seem pretty awesome; such as Brominnator, Robrocop and Mr. BroT. Now we just need DudeBro and the circle of douchebaggery would be complete.
