Looks like a lot of Dragon Quest related projects are beginning to stir over at Square Enix. This is a good thing! Dragon Quest Hero’s just doesn’t cut it in my opinion.
Released 10 years ago on the PlayStation 2, Dragon Quest VIII is apparently scheduled to re-release on the Nintendo 3DS next month in Japan. While concerns have been rising that everyone over west will never be able to play these re-releases, things are starting to look a bit brighter as both Dragon Quest VII, which had only released in Japan, as well as Dragon Quest VIII will be coming West in the future.
At the Japan Expo 2015 that took place this past weekend in Paris, France, DQ series creator Yuji Horri attended and announced that both Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VII would be released “in French”. This information was apparently never planned to be announced during the expo, however, Horii let it slip out a bit.
It’s pretty rare for a game to get a EU/Japan release and never make it’s way to the US, so odds are we will be receiving both games at some point in the near future as well. Dragon Quest has always been a series difficult to sell over West, so it makes sense that it’s taken this long for these games to release, or even be planned to release on foreign shores.
Hopefully we’ll have an official announcement by Tokyo Game Show regarding a US release.
