Pokemon and Nintendo today unveiled details on a new Pokemon game that will be free for download on both iOS and Android sometime in 2016.
Titled Pokemon GO, the game will be developed by Niantic in partnership with Nintendo and Pokemon, and will focus heavily on the real-world gaming experience, and will allow players the opportunity to travel the real world in search of Pokemon.
According to Nintendo, players will encounter Pokemon, battles, trades, and other features of the game while simply going about their daily lives. To add to the fantasy, and to make the game easier, Nintendo is also marketing an accessory for the game called the Pokemon GO Plus, which alerts players through flashes, sounds, and vibrations of nearby in-game events. While the game download will be free, no price has yet been quoted for the GO Plus.
Mobile gamers have long been awaiting a true Pokemon title, and Nintendo wanted to make sure they delivered.
“Our challenge was to develop a great game for smart phone devices that expressed the core values of Pokémon,” said CEO of The Pokémon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara. “Pokémon GO is the answer to that challenge.”
Although further details regarding plot and game play have not been released, buzz is already beginning to grow. Get yourself in the mood to catch ’em all!
