Oh, it can still get worse...

In college I saw some things no one should see and tricked other people into seeing things no one should ever see. Being so knowledgeable about the internet I also knew the rules of the internet, namely rule 34 or ‘If it exist, there is porn of it’. Something that has and probably will always be true. For whatever reason porn designers have taken to Overwatch like sparks to a pile of oil soaked rags. Even since the beta the amount of Overwatch based porn has skyrocketed. Pornhub alone estimates that people looking for Overwatch themed items has increased by over 800 percent since release, let alone the rest of the internet. Why is Overwatch so popular with porn enthusiast? That’s like asking why the internet is the internet.

To no one’s surprise Blizzard is not happy about this and is taking down Overwatch porn in multiple major sites like Pornhub by claiming copyright infringement. Rumors suggest that Blizzard has even gone so far as to hire 3rd party groups to search out and remove these items. On what grounds is Blizzard removing these items? Because god knows there will always be porn of everything. Apparently they are accusing these designers of using their character designs without permission in a way that violates the user agreement. Usually this would just be an excuse to remove the items but it seem some videos are actually using the character specs directly from the game; which kind of explains why they look so original. Although an abnormal amount seems to be adding ‘extra’ parts but people are still asking for more.

Giggity.
Giggity.

While most think Blizzard is fighting an impossible battle some of the porn designers argue that their creations are just as much fan art as anything. Blizzard argues that it goes against their own policy and puts the game in a bad light. The question is, has Blizzard had to deal with the sexulization of its games before? Of course it has, one major secret Blizzard has been keeping for years is how one of its largest World of Warcraft forums is one giant teen orgy. As an unmoderated forum they can do just about anything and even talking about it on moderated forums can end in temporary ban. Blizzard is fighting an uphill battle it can never win, because once something goes online it never comes down. While it’s disappointing such a great game has been reduced to this level already, it was always inevitable.
