‘God of War’ Ditches Greece and Goes Norse

I love it when I’m right and I totally called that God of War trailer. However, it isn’t God of War 4 as speculated but an all new God of War series. Apparently after killing all the Greek gods and stabbing himself, Kratos decided to just chill for hundreds of years, mess with some Norse gods and grow a crazy old man beard. While making such a drastic shift in local is questionable the developers mentioned that they completely rebuilt the old formula in a new location. It’s the same Kratos, just a lot older… with a crazy beard and a kid now. So the backstory is the same with a new blank period where Kratos has his son and moved all the way North. Gameplay seems to have changed with an over the shoulder camera. Kratos also traded in his twin blades for a magic ax… and an old man beard.

God of War PS4, because they just had to complicate the name, will not be an open world game but will be considerably larger than previous games. While there is little to no information on the story it seems clear it will cover a lot of the time after 3. How or if they mash up the Greek and Norse mythology is another possibility with unclear results. The interesting shift in this game is how much it seems Kratos has mellowed out, trying to be patient if distant to his son. Where in previous games he would have butchered anyone that looked at him wrong… or at all. This does follow from the end of God of War 3 when Kratos finally let go of his anger and found peace, after killing everyone. While Kratos is the main character will his son be playable or is it more like The Last of Us?

Slated for release sometime in 2017 it has been speculated it will come out around the same time as the PS4.5. Not only that but it will be the first game to use the improved graphics, or 4K graphics. A lot of questions with very few answers. Will this sudden and complete change turn away fans of the series or will old and new fans alike accept it? The real question though is what is up with that beard?
