It has absolutely been a wild week for gamer’s thus far, and while it’s not quite over yet, with May finally wrapping up we begin to fast-approach E3 2021, the pinnacle time of the year for video game announcements and reveals; and it seems things are coming out much more earlier this year than ever.
As many of you have probably heard by now, Nintendo has seemingly been working on an updated model of the Nintendo Switch for the past few years or so. Rumors regarding a more “beefed” up version of the system began to circle around late 2018-2019ish if I remember correctly. Needless to say, Nintendo has tried their best to shoot down these rumors time and time again, but now it seems we’re finally at that tipping point and might even receive an official reveal regarding the console in the coming day’s.
A recent report from Bloomberg has stated that a new and upgraded Nintendo Switch model is currently planned to be released sometime early Fall (September/October) of this year, with full-scale production kicking off as soon as this July. They have also reported that we may see a announcement for the system sometime BEFORE E3 2021, to give publishers an opportunity to showcase their full line-up of Switch games.
If a report from Bloomberg doesn’t convince you of the likeliness of this new upgraded model existing at this point, prominent leaker Emily Rogers has also confirmed on social media that the report is in fact accurate, while also hinting that we may even receive an announcement for the system sometime before the end of the week, though at this point, next week is looking much more likely.
Yes, Bloomberg’s report was accurate.
New screen, upgraded chips.
Aiming for Sept – Oct release.
An announcement is imminent. We might be getting news sooner than we thought.— Emily Rogers (@ArcadeGirl64) May 27, 2021
It’s honestly been an exhausting game of gaslighting when it comes to the reality of this new Switch model, and I can say with relief that I am so glad it’s just about over and done with. With the current state of the console market in mind, it’s important to note that if you would like to get your hands on one of these systems this year if they are in fact still set to arrive this year, pre-ordering may be your best bet!
While we still have no official word, obviously, regarding when pre-orders will go live for the upgraded model, Amazon pages for the system have seemingly already gone live and have been altered to “ASIN” at the time of this writing. So if an announcement is to come sometime within the next week or so, pre-orders may possibly go live the same day. In the meantime, I’ll be sure to keep you updated on the latest developments regarding the ‘Nintendo Switch Pro’ as they come out.
