So I found a new game on Kickstarter that I have been going back and forth on a lot; sometimes a like it then I don’t like it so much and then I stuff myself with whatever I can find in the fridge to forget my worries. Rides With Strangers is basically what it sounds like, a game where you hitchhike with complete strangers; I assume it is primarily inspired by a combination of the extreme risk in hitch hiking and the sudden popularity of ride share apps. My trouble with the game though is that it gives me the…
So it is a big year or so for Nintendo, 30 year anniversary and their major cash cow Pokémon is going on 20 years… excuse me one moment while I go cry in a corner about how old I’ve gotten and wonder about the implications of still playing Pokémon. It is a big year for Pokémon as well with the release of the smart phone game Pokémon GO, the fighting game Pokémon Tournament and the possible, or eventual, rerelease of Pokémon Red and Blue (Go Bulbasaur!) To celebrate those who have the latest Pokémon games Omega, Alpha, X and Y…
How does a developer from Ireland know so much about the Blues? I’ll begin to answer this by asking have you never heard of Rory Gallagher?! I could almost leave it at that but I’ll continue… First off, I’m not quite sure why a developer from Ireland wouldn’t know about the Blues. This tiny rock in the North Atlantic has been under the continuous cultural influence of the United States, birthplace of the blues, and the United Kingdom, home of blues greats like Eric Clapton and blues-influenced rock legends like Led Zeppelin, since before the first wireless radio was manufactured. This fact, coupled…
How will the two player function work? Will it be versus the PC or will the game support multiple players online or locally? Refuge will work both turn-based locally and online. Personally, I didn’t see much value in playing hide & seek with an Ai as it begins feel a lot less real. Would it be possible for the game to support multiple players? It’s a one vs one deathmatch – I want to keep that intimacy of trying to work out the other players’ tactic, and making your move accordingly. The Ark (the arena you hunt each other in)…
While I wait for the new games to start rolling out later this month I keep myself entertained by checking out what’s new on Kickstarter. Two new projects recently caught my eye, one for being laughably terrible though and one that actually interested me. I don’t know what the first one was called but as I laughed at how pathetic an attempt to cash in it was I decided in my mind to call it ‘strip club tycoon’. The entirety of the project was a picture of a stripper on a pile of cash and a paragraph on how they…
So while I was contemplating the last year and considering everything I had done or still needed to do I had a realization; I need one more reward for biggest gaming dumbass of the year. To be fair it is usually a tight race with EA picking it up for either doing something stupid or for price gouging the hell out of gamers… usually with sharp sticks to save on the bottom line. I think everyone can agree though that the reward should go to Konami. Everyone thought it was bad when they canceled Silent Hills but it only went…
So usually by now I put up the new list of free PSN games to gold members but for whatever reason it has been delayed for some time. A lot of people have speculated a lot of things; ranging from the discontinuation or limiting of games to the holy grail of free triple A titles. Either way it was kind of ominous waiting so long to announce the new stuff. Usually when things have to wait longer than normal it does not bode well. Of course right before I was about to write about that the games finally get dropped.…
Like some odd mashup of Valkyria Chronicles and a not shit version of Steel Battalion the Kickstarter game Tokyo Warfare intrigues me in ways only the most bizarre can. Based off some ancient arcade game I never heard of before it is exactly what it sounds like, a bunch of tanks fighting it out all over Tokyo. The curious thing is that it is being designed in Spain… so unless my geography is way off I don’t think Spain is anywhere near Japan. I also get that feeling I get when a violent game takes place in an actual place…
Now that the holidays are over and the gaming market is relaxing after the selling binge I can take some time to get caught up on older things and focus on the indie market. For instance, when you put something on Kickstarter you may want to check for some warning signs before wasting everyone’s time on a doomed project. The fastest method is to go through the list of active and failed projects; if your game looks anything like every other damn thing you may want to stop. If your project looks like it was designed by someone using babies…
The new Jack the Ripper DLC for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was bad, like really bad. It has bugs, it is short with little new to offer and it just isn’t that interesting. I wasn’t sure what to expect out of the Jack the Ripper DLC but I had much higher hopes than this. The truly baffling part is how the DLC couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. At first it was a rage induced murder boner which I was alright with. Then it became a mystery deal with the actual main characters of the game; a little less interesting…
